Bellapais Abbey Kyrenia; The abbey was built between 1158 and 1205, then enlarged and finished between 1267 and 1284 during the reign of the French King Hugh III. The abbey was constructed by monks who moved to the island from Jerusalem, It is a spectacular example of Gothic architecture in Cyprus, with a commanding view of the whole northern coastline of the island, as well as a magnificent mountain view. Passing through the arched entry, one reaches the front courtyard, in which is the church, the oldest part of the abbey. The glorious abbey hosts an impressive classical music festival annually in North Cyprus Kyrenia.
